I have a cross of shutennou x Koto in spike.
It flowered with one spike last year for the first time, and it is now sending up three spikes. Definitely took the flowering machine gene of shutennou. lol

That last one is quite unique! Does it always flower with three spurs?

Yes. Manjushage 曼珠沙華 is a mutant flower. It is prized for the three spurs. In fact when you you buy one of these plants you should see it in flower--unless you trust the seller.

Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

In agreement with Marco, Manjushage and Kutsuwamushi are among my favourites and the only ones I have still in flower as my Neo season has nearly finished for this year. Manjushage can bloom for a long time; mine has got quite big and last year produced 8 spikes one after the other and was in bloom from mid May into early August, long after the others were finished.
