Paph shin yi pride

This is the start of the first flower I've had from my shin yi pride paph,,

I'm very keen to see how it turns out,

Has x4 flower buds which I think is not bad for its first flowering ?

It has P. Rothschildianum on one side and P. Sanderianum on the other side.

It is wonderful that you have 4 buds on a relatively small plant. But I wonder if this tag is correct? I would think that Paph. Shin-Yi Pride would be larger with that many flowers.
I am interested to see what others might think.

It's also 25% philippinense which could bring the size down significantly.

I totally get what you are saying but which odds would you bet on? Everything aligning on a 25% chance of being compact or a 75% chance of being bigger?
I'll bet on 75 every time.
Interesting though.

Well, the ways of the genetic lottery are for me as unsearchable and past finding out as are the ways of the Lord!
I don't think percentages will provide any help in deciding which genes are dominant or which are recessive... not to speak of which contributes to sheer chance.
I have a P. Delrosi growing to be a somewhat larger plant and at the same time a P. Gloria Naugle, that looks quite small (and darn slowgrowing). As both are 50-50%
Rothschildianum-delenatii, respective micranthum, they - at least for their part -seem to be discarding the %-theory (my P. Dollgoldi btw seems to have chosen the path of moderation, when it comes to the size of its vegetable features, and places itself in the middle of the other two extremists! ).

So... go to a local fabric store.. (joann fabrics?)
get yourself a couple yards of a black ( i use something pretty heavy, like a canvass style fabric)
and a flat gray (even a velour type) you can use either color to use as backdrops for almost any flower...

I made myself a backdrop out of 1” pvc pipe from Home Depot. 18” wide by 30” high. I used a pvc pipe cement to lock it together. I used 2 triple pvc joint pieces at the bottom to allow for “legs” to be added.
Then I mounted black bainbridge board on one side and medium gray bainbridge on the other side. Bainbridge is available from Hobby Lobby, Staples, etc.
It took about 1 1/2 hours to make.

Black velvet is your best bet. Sucks up light like a sponge.
