They do quite well actually. In the summer they get heavy shade and frequent water and in the winter, some added warmth from Christmas Lights on the benches when the temps drop. The area where they are kept is protected on two sides so I just use one layer of 30% shade in winter and double it in summer.

The first time I looked at this it reminded me of a painting I had seen by Robin Street-Morris. I've got two of her orchid watercolors. Orchids seem to be one of her specialties. I've attached a link for anyone interested.
