This is an interesting little Polystachya I bought from Duckitt Nurseries over the weekend. The NS of the flower is about 1cm. I have seen a number of plants at the nursery in flower and most of them flowering from the 2nd growth and a remark made by Wilfred is that some of them would flower themself to death. The plant shown here has some 26 flowers open on a very small plant. The natural habitat of the plant is among others Gabon. The 1st picture shows a single flower.
In this picture one can see a yellow/green powder on the flower which create the impression of pollen, but obviously not. The pollinator does get rewarded with something but not pollen. The small little dots in the picture is some powder that got onto the lens of the camera
