Paph Rosario "New York"

Dear all

Yesterday I spent some time to visit all greenhouse of Philippe Lecoufle in Boissy St Leger (open week) and bought a little division of Rosario "New York" (Paeony x delenatii).
P Lecoufle explained to me he gave his clonal name to this plant because he brought the plant to NY show in 97 and it was a great plant but was not awarded.

Has someone more info on this clone ? may be Roth who know very well Lecoufle complex paph collection ?

The only orchidwiz photo of another clone of Rosario isn't very good.

The cross Rosario has been made twice, in the 70's, once by Ratcliffe, and it gave the absolutely fantastic and stunning ( now defunct...) Rosario 'New Year' AM/GMM/RHS. It was the only seedling worth anything of the whole grex, but absolutely fantastic. It was on the front cover of a RHS Orchid Review if I remember well. Like a Paeony, but very dark pink-red, good substance... Apparently between that and Orchilla, Ratcliffe have been successful to make unique and fantastic cultivars of otherwise not so interesting hybrids...

The Vacherot and Lecoufle has made the same cross, using a different delenatii ( Ratcliffe was a F3 or F4, the VL was a F1 or even the original one).

Except Rosario New Year, all have a very average to terrible shape...

I have the chance to take pics during London Orchids Show some years ago of a Rosario clone from P Lecoufle. The color and the shape are good. link to the tanaka paph page where I sent the pics.

It could be interesting to cross again Paeony with delenatii

the New Year is an amazing clone it is a pity it was lost.

That is spectacular in shape and colour. Superior to the other clones esp for the intensity of the colouration.

That's another one, the original New Year was much fuller, fatter, and with a better shape overall...

But that one for sure comes from Ratcliffe Orchids... Their delenatii was superior to the VL one to breed this kind of complex x delenatii.
