Bought this as a lynniae (or should it be lowii var lynniae?). But to me it looks like a regular lowii. Anyone know what differs between the two?

According to Koopowitz: "...differs from paphiopedilum lowii in having a glabrous (smooth and not covered with hairs) ovary. There is also some light speckling at the base of the dorsal sepal. The plant was names for Lynn Wellenstein and was a cultivated specimen that was supposed to have been collected originally in Borneo. Cribb regards it as a variety of Paph lowii."

Yours doesn't seem to have "light speckling at the base of the dorsal sepal" and looks to have hairs on the ovary.

yes I have seen the spreckling on all lynniae phothos I have seen so that was the one thing that made me suspicious.

I'd make it a variety of lowii.... does is it that important that we make new species out of tiny differences?

Imagine if we did that to every genera of plants, every elm tree, etc.
