    Paphiopedilum wardii album

This plant was exhibited at the Quebec City Orchid Show by the Ottawa Orchid Society. It was pulled for judging but was passed due to some bruising marks on the pouch rim. The flowers were really gorgeous green and great form with petals near horizontal. Eventhough it was slightly smaller than...

Guessing Game: Part 2: Albums Buffet

A Guessing Game: What Album Spike is This

This inflorescence caught me by surprise. I saw it 2 weeks ago before my trip as a tiny point thinking it was a sheath… but now has become a fully fledged flower stem with 4-5 buds on it. Would anyone like to guess what it is? Several clues: 1. Album 2. Species 3. Multi floral (😂) solid...

A Dynasty of Paphiopedilum charlesworthii sandowiae albums

This is the first time that 3 of my awarded charliebums are blooming at the same time. The huge 10-cm FCC ‘Immaculate’ towers over the 8-cm AM ‘Green Tea’ (right) and the 7.5-cm AM ‘Green Delight’ (left). They have been bred and selfed with babies already in lab.

Paph philippinense var palawanense frma album x self

Picked this seedling up at the Illinois Orchid Society show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. I’ve never heard of the clonal name ‘Tildy Babuska’, and a google search couldn’t get me any results either. Is anyone familiar with this plant? The tag also seems to have some info identifying the flask...

Ang thong Masquerade: A Tale of Mistaken Identity

Recently, it has come to light that my plant, for whom I thought was a niveum album, was exposed as an ang thong, an accepted variety of godefroyae. This shocked me. The reason were because the leaves were long, wider and bent downwards (unlike niveum, which are upwards, thin and shorter) and...

    Paphiopedilum niveum album

First time both flowers are open at same time. NS 9 cm. Very floriferous plant, up to twice a year bloomings. The bright yellow T5 casts a golden shade over the white.

Paphiopedilum charlesworthii fm. sandowiae (album) ‘Titan’ AM/AOS

Rarely blooming in summer, the flowers are smaller and sulk (not a happy face lol from the side sticking tongue out of that staminode). But I’ll enjoy it despite its sullenness 😅. NS 8 cm DSW 5 cm A division from Hillsview.

Paphiopedilum godefroyae album ‘Double Happiness’ AM/AOS

Just opening, a pure ivory white with green veined staminode. More pics later when fully stretched next week. At present is 8 cm NS.

    Paphiopedilum niveum album ‘Double Trouble’

In bloom again after last year’s drama lol. Also with two flowers on one spike. NS 8 cm. Such a cute pouch. A dimple on the right petal, possibly still stretching. Let’s see what happens at judging today.

    Paphiopedilum fowliei album Triplets

The triplets are back! One got burnt like Icarus as it got too close to the sun (blaster tubes). Poor thing. The double bloom one has an HCC from last year. I named her after my formerly favourite icon, Ms. M (hint 80’s and 90’s Material Girl 👧). Warm and medium light all year. No winter...

New Buds in the Block Party

Some buds popped out this week. Exciting! Two black leucochilums, two vietnamense (one of them a dark select from OI that has blasted 2 years in a row 🤞) and the scandalous niveum album (passed at judging last year with drama). There will be a block party for April judging! At least the...

An album Brachy x Multifloral backcrossed to Brachy…

Coming up on five months post flasking of this seedpod, Paph. Jennifer Stage frma. alba (godefroyae x philippinense) x leucochilum frma. album. I’m expecting albino flowers from this weird backcross of an intersectional Paph hybrid (Polyantha x Brachypetalum) crossed back to Brachypetalum...

Paphiopedilum jackii albums ‘JF and Jaqueline’

Acquired off the show display from Zephyrus Orchids (thanks JD) from last weekend’s Toronto (SOOS) show from a group of six in bloom. Since they came in a pair I decided to name them the most famous couple of their time. Such serene and delicate lime green coloration with a white staminode...

Paphiopedilum charlesworthii fm. sandowiae ‘Her Majesty’ FCC/AOS

I just got my first FCC today at judging! Now I know how Tyler felt! I’m on the moon still lol. Presenting ‘Her Majesty’, the charlesworthii album with 90 points! The 4th FCC to be given by the Toronto Judging Center (TJC) in over 30 years! I named this as a tribute to my treasured...

    Paphiopedilum charlesworthii album ‘Titan’ AM/AOS

Just opening with two buds plus 2 more low sheaths. Strong grower, a division from Hillsview Nursery (Theresa) I got about 4 years ago. Still expanding and will get much larger (the name gives a hint lol). Hopefully all opens together in a month?

    Easter Swan with Uncle

Swimming in the ‘sea’ of brachys is this swan. Anyone can guess who she is? Hint: brachy album species previously posted last year 😉.

Paphiopedilum fowliei var. christianae ‘Ms.M’ HCC/AOS

Awarded today with an HCC 77 points from AOS monthly judging today. Funny, of all the 5 plants I thought this one (added last minute) was the least to get an award lol. This is the album version of fowliei.

Paphiopedilum fowliei fm. christianae Family Portrait

I bought about 10 of these NBS albums from PaphParadise last year and half of them came into bloom. Here are two of them in a family portrait:
