Hi Rick ...
I use those little containers for watering baby plants. Each one has a tiny hole in its bottom, so that when filled with water, it falls gradually, so that the substrate (inorganic), remains wet for longer allowing the roots absorb more water without them suffering dehydration. Something similar happens when you put fertilizer solution in the container. Something like a rustic drop irrigation system that I use when it doesn't rain and humidity levels are low. Regards.
