Yes indeed, very complex and interesting flowers. But in lasting only for 3, 5 or 7 days is the reason we do not see many at judging. It is truly a rare event.
I have seen them come to judging in large styrofoam coolers or in cardboard boxes trying to keep the flowers as close to perfect as possible.
They “jump the line” so to speak in order to have them judged ASAP. But they are gorgeous!!
Wonderful job of growing and thanks for sharing!!! 👍

The flower shape of this genus is fascinating at one hand and slightly confusing at the other hand and the scent is intense. Always a feast for the eyes to see this species.

Absolutely gorgeous this nigroviolacea form.

My team awarded one at the Cali Show an FCC last November called ‘Black Widow’. It opened on the day of judging in morning (were just buds on setup day before) and we saw it that evening… within 2 days it started to wilt at the end of the show!!!

Beautiful flowering. What are the dimensions of your plant or pot? I have two such plants which have been grown in 17 cm (7") diameter pots for at least 10 years ..... they have never flowered. The pots have no bottom, replaced by a grid with 10 mm (3/8") mesh and a layer of sphagnum. What are your growing conditions? fertilizer regime? temperature? rest?
Thank you in advance for your information.
