Actually, the parents can't have been 'var. annamense', but this seems to rely on a misidentification error perpetuated in eternity by the otherwise excellent Sam of former Orchid Inn. I think your endearing Freudian slip regarding the form/variety of the flower, 'amnamense' point us in the right direction of what went wrong: temporary amnesia leading to the slip that resulted in the erroneous varietal designation!
