This is the cross of Lambourne x Wendwater registered in 1949 by Black & Flory; an interesting older paph, and the selected clone of Charlesworth & Co. in England. This plant probably came to the US fairly early in its life, and the grex is an amazingly important set of breeding plants. It shows the importance in early reds of Paph. Atlantis 'The Cardinal'.

From Wendbourn comes a host of important parents: Johnbourn (responsible for the fine color of the Provocation - Gridlock sort of line), John Hanes (an important red), Botan, Bournhill, and Wendarrow. Of interest is that Wendbourn made its way to Japan fairly early and so serves as an important stepping stone in Japanese reds as well.

Wow, Tim. You have quite an impressive collection of stood-the-test-of-time antiques. I hope you are able propagate them and spread them around. In light of improved seed germinating and culture techniques these oldies may still prove very useful.
