The leaves are 6.5 cm wide and the leaf span is around more than a meter long. So It does take a lot of space. Especially when it begins to clump.

Very nice P. kolopakingii, congrats. I like it very much and I get an impression how big mine must grow before I can expect a flower spike. I wait and see.

What makes this topperi versus a typical kolo?

As far as I know there's no distiction because var. topperi exist only in nurseries as an sales argument. Neither G. Brehm nor H. Koopowitz mention a var. topperi in their books, also Stephen Manza says on his site that there are no varieties or forms http://www.slipperorchids.info/paphdatasheets/polyantha/kolopakingii/index.html Last but not least 'The Plant List' doesn't mention any variety to P. kolopakingi http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/search?q=Paphiopedilum+kolopakingii
