hi Slippertalkers,
I hope you're all enjoying your long Thanksgiving weekend
I was woken up this morning by a call from the farm that somebody
from Birma was asking for me and brought something wrapped a bundle banana leafs.
within half an hour I was at my farm once there, i recognized the guy from
the burmese border a few days ago.
he hastily unwrapped his banana bundle and there was one of the best Paph.
charlesworthii alba i've ever seen the flower is much bigger ,longer stemmed
than any other ones that i've seen in my life.
the man told me that his father had found it many years ago and always
grew in a large claypot ,he took a division and brought it to me
my apologies for the low quality of the picture it's taken with a very cheap
mobile phone camera
i thought to share it with you guys

Now, did this plant stay with you, or did he just show it to you ?! :) Jean

is happily potted in a mix of New Zealand bark, hydroton, larger chunks of perlite
and a bit of sand
the Burmese man returned home with a sizable amount of thai baht and this will make him one of the well off people in his mountain village.

Well good for both of you!! A rich man in both respects!

้hi NYeric,

we have been quiet success full in propegating Paph. charlesworthii regular and albino forms,
this is not a fresh jungle plant it was cultivated for a few years
has an intact root system, and virtually unblemished leafs
so i don't expect to have any problems with this plant
enjoy your weekend or whatever is left of it for me it's sunday morning 11.55 am
cliokchi;)

Excellent, thanx for sharing. Good Luck w/ propagating it.

hi eric,

it's now easily available from Europe, several German vendors have it for sale on their websites.
and also in Japan and taiwan it's freely available at reasonable prices,
i can remember that one of very first good alba clone 'Pride of tokyo' in the early 90's was sold for a couple of thousand $ a division.
cliokchi;)
Here only 2 vendors I know have had charleswothii album. So I assumed it was difficult to cultivate. Thanx for the info; have a good day.

Great story, wish someone would knock on my door with a surprise like that.

The flower is fabulous, it certainly should be propagated!

good to notice that CITES has obvioulsy made great imact in some parts of the world :rollhappy:
