    Michigan Orchid Society Spring Show

Anyone have details about the MOS (MI) Spring Orchid Show? I believe it’s this weekend. Thanks, Paphluvr

    Rosemary surprise

I finally brought my potted rosemary inside after a few frosts. While watering it I noticed that it had what appeared to be buds. A couple of days ago it finally bloomed. What a nice surprise and totally unexpected.

    Lycaste specialists, advice needed

Are there any species that look like L. aromatica but that bloom on mature growths? I’ve had an aromatica in the past that I seem to recall bloomed on the new growth and was especially fragrant. The one I have now was sold as aromatica but is not very fragrant and blooms on the mature growth...

    On aging

It occured to me that I've been growing orchids now for about 50 years (specializing in Paphs) and am starting to think about what is going to happen to them when I no longer can. It's always been my hobby, not my wifes although she appreciates them. I wouldn't expect her to care for them if I...

    Paph. spicerianum double header

My largest division of this plant gave me a bi-floral scape again this season. Sorry for the poor quality, taken with my I-Pad Mini.

    Paph. Gloria Naugle - improved,but.....

I posted a photo of a flowering of this plant in 2021, pictured again here. This year was somewhat of an improvement, no dents in the pouch but still a twist in the staminode. Maybe the third blooming will bring more improvement?

    Ascda. Princess Mikasa 'Sapphire'

This is the first bloom of this plant. I wasn't expecting it to bloom on a plant this small. The overall spread of the plant is approx. 13" (33cm), the flowers are 8.5cm wide. There is a third flower hidden behind these two.

    Diacatt. Chantilly Lace 'Twinkle'

This is the first blooming of the year but with low flower count due to a late season repot last year. Normal flower count is more like seven flowers/spike and it blooms several times/year. The flowers are fragrant, albiet a somewhat funky fragrance (at least to my nose). The pink sepals fade to...

Michigan Orchid Society Palm Sunday show

Has anyone heard if the MOS Palm Sunday show is being held this year, and if so, is it in the same location?

    NOID Phal. perfect waterfall

I don't stake my Phals and, as an indoor grower, the spikes always grow toward the window. This mini just seemed to have the perfect display.

Paph. delenatii, when it's time, it's time.

It would appear to be a single bi-floral spike, approximately 10.5" tall at this point. But wait, what's this on the other side? A two leaf growth, the largest leaf is about 3" long.

    Too many Magic Lanterns

If there's one plant that I've never had a problem with it's these. All are divisions of one plant that I bought ??? The first picture is a group of five pots with the smallest division being four growths. The second photo is of my two largest divisions. Most were repotted this Spring so I'm...

    Cute little NOID Dendrobium

I found this little guy at my local Kroger and couldn't resist bringing it home. I've only grown Dendrobium nobile hybrids before this. I must be doing something right though, it's put on three new canes since I got it. The blooming cane when I bought it was 5" tall, the newest is 7" and still...

    Surprise visitor

I keep a feeder on my deck about 5' outside of my great room window, primarily to feed the local goldfinches. The other day a larger bird at the feeder caught my eye and I was surprised to see this woodpecker chowing down. It stuck around for almost 15 min. and wasn't to happy to share with the...

    Phrag. Eric Young hanger on

My Phrag. Eric Young surprised me this year by holding two flowers for about a week before one dropped. In the past I've only seen a day or two overlap. I've never had a spike branch. Can they?

A couple of venustums and a near venustum

Two views of my venustum 'album' taken a few days apart showing how much more the petals reflexed during that time. U The "near venustum" is Paph. Mystic Deception.u

Phrag. Carol Kanzer, better result for 2020

This years bloom seems better than previous bloomings. The plant has two spikes, the one in bloom being the third flower on its spike and the other carrying its third "soon to open" bud. Both show at least two more buds/spike.

    Paph. Salvador Dali

I finally had to remove the spike from two seasons ago that finally stopped blooming, so now it's back to just two again. Too bad because there were still brachs for the buds to form at the end of the spike. This is from this seasons spike. I don't remember it carrying three flowers at one time...

Finally, Paph. Jade Dragon after several failed attempts

I finally was successful in re-blooming my Paph. Jade Dragon. I received it in bud several years ago but the bud got damaged in shipment so the flower opened with some damage to the dorsal. Two seasons ago the sheath barely emerged from the fan before it blasted. Last year the spike got about...
