Through SuperPaph (Alex) I met up with his friend Lorenzo in Cuba, who bred, flowered and registered one of the first hybrids in Cuba (named after his daughter). He’s since registered many hybrids in RHS.
The flower is brilliantly bicolored and blooms sequentially during their winter.
Other of his own hybrids and plants of his collection:
Lorenzo is an agricultural scientist and is likely the only one flasking orchid seeds in Cuba. He showed me his garden collection including his favorite genera Brassovola.
He’s also the president of the San Miguel Orchid Society which will be having their show this month around January 27-38. If anyone is in Cuba at this time, make some time to visit!
Thanks Lorenzo for spending your time with me and also thanks to his daughter for helping with the English translations in our verbal communication. (Note: some pics are taken by Lorenzo).
It’s great to know that Cuba is thriving with several orchid lovers and societies!
