Location
Penang, Malaysia..d home of fabulous paphs.
New addition from a recent local show on Saturday. These two flowers are from the same pot (got it for a steal), I think they are actually 2 first-bloom seedlings potted together. Not very round, but pretty flat.

The rest, all from Thailand

This was the priciest of the bunch. I didn't get it as the flower was a bit cuppy. Not sure if the cuppiness will recur, colour is good though.

That's a pretty nice selection of plants, but not what I
expected for some reason. Do you ever get a chance to
visit the border market? My Kuching friend finds really
really unique plants there...also sees a lot of junk as well.
I like your purchase.

I'm in Kuala Lumpur, not Kuching. This show was held in Putrajaya, near the KL airport. There are more species available at the border markets between Sarawak/Kalimantan, almost all are wild-collected.

You have super self control power!! Woohoo it's brachy time!!!!

I'm picky and can't afford the pricey ones.. :p

At least these wild collected plants look like they are well taken care of, the other pictures I've seen look like whole wild collected colonies laying on a tarp dead, hopefully they will find a good home

They do look like nursery-grown quality with the leaves so clean! :)

I like that last one! The color is nice, but I also prefer slightly cupped.

There is just too much emphasis on flatness. so annoying sometimes, at least to me.

I believe these are nursery-raised godefroyae and leucochilum, not wild-collected. These are likely average quality. My friend who goes to Thai nurseries often says that they sell individual plants based on flower quality, so the really good ones can be very expensive.

With all the breeding in Thailand etc its hard to justify wild collection, anymore.

For some species, yes. I think what most of the non-paph specialist nurseries do is to re-establish wild plants until they flower then sell them. There are specialist paph nurseries in Thailand but they only breed for their local species (godefroyae, leucochilum, some bellatulum). So far, I haven't seen them do much line-breeding with the barbata section (appletonianum, sukhakulii) and parishii.

Some rangsuriyanum sat at the back of the table, if i see it well, right? The price was 150 what? I'm so jealous now. You are really lucky, if you could get one. Rungs are wild collected certainly.

RM150, that's roughly 40 USD. I didn't get it, not too sure if it will grow here at all. Yes, they were wild stock but recently a Thai nursery has started to offer rungs in flask. Not sure what the price is in baht or USD.
