Removing old leaves

Thank you everybody - I didn't realise I'd start such a lively discussion. I also wouldn't think that there is any need to sterilise anything if cutting through a dead, shrivelled leaf.

correct. you can't pass anything into the plant through brown leaves. however, the next plant you touch or treat is at risk so be sure to wash hands and sterilize before moving on to any other plants.

Also, though that leaf is dead if its wet and your scissors have fungal or bacterial matter that like to spread quickly through splash and things like that, there's the chance something can spread that way. Some things move quite quickly in a wet or very humid environment
So always good to clean cutters between cutting no matter what
