there are people who have done this with the family of oncidium, I would try. I have a hybrid that I've done that has won two AM / AOS and I want to spread
propagation by meristem

If this is done with Paphiopedilum, it is rare. Most will say that it cannot be done. Some years ago there was a comment in an AOS bulletin that there was some sucess with stem props on Phragmipedium, but I have never been able to find the volume I read it in.
