Grand Chupacabra
Pot. New Hybrid (Blc. Guess What 'SVO' AM/AOS x Pot. Dean's Gold 'Dean's Gold' AM/AOS)
A freebie from SVO last year. Fred tends to throw in a freebie for my AOS "discount" rather than give me an actual discount -- and I'm not complaining!
It's probably nothing all that special or award worthy, but I don't have much of anything like this and I like anything that blooms for me without much fuss. It tried to bloom this past summer, but the buds blasted in the heat. Or maybe I kept it too dry, I try super hard not to over water these things which is my Achilles Heel.
There's a super faint run of the mill floral rose scent early in the day, but the flowers are otherwise non-fragrant, that's a bit disappointing, but based on the parentage I wasn't expecting much to begin with.
As usual, my camera doesn't really capture the vibrancy of the color. These are BRIGHT yellow, like a standard oncidium and the lip is so much more red than the photos seem to indicate. I like the intricate patterning in the lip as well. It kind of reminiscent of what I'd imagine a cross between C. downiana and one of the rupicolous Laelias would be, not surprising giving the parentage of this cross.
