This is my Phragmipedium Calurum 'Lydia Merkle' AM/AOS, a hybrid of Phrag. longifolium x Sedenii. I got it as a seedling from Hoosier Orchids about twelve years ago and got it awarded in 1999. The flowers are a little over four inches across. Its extremely vigorous and is just starting to bloom for the season and it will continue to bloom for about eight months. The spikes continue to lengthen and branch and each stem will often have five flowers open at a time. It looks like it will have nine spikes this year on a plant about three feet across. I'll post another photo in a couple months when its really spectacular.
