I would be happy to pass on to ECOAN any comments posted here- constructive, critical, or just encouraging.

The proposal is for accessing the situation of Phragmipedium kovachii and whether more habitat should be purchased.

Orchids been the most beautiful flowers and the preference for many people, which ones wants to have them inside of their homes as a collection; this habit opens to a terrible situation that is increasing more and more each time, bringing to the table the illegal trade and illegal collecting of species to cover the demand of the orchids collectors.
The illegal collection is done in terrible conditions; people which ones runs this business doesn’t care about the conservation objectives for those species, destroying the current population. Some programs of reproduction in captivity near to the original places where is collected are producing an opportunity to increase the threats and formalized this dangerous activity.
Abra Patricia is one of the most important sites for a large list of wild Flora and Fauna and many of them are in threatened status. In that way Asociacion Ecosistemas Andinos - ECOAN in cooperation with American Bird Conservancy - ABC decided to protect this unique area first thinking on the bird’s species, but later comes mammals, plants, etc.; at the moment we have the Private Protected Area of Abra Patricia – Alto Nieva and the Conservation Concession also (10,000 ha), all the area is at the buffer zone of the Alto Mayo Protected Forest (BPAM) at the regions of Amazonas and san Martin.

This could be a good one to work on Mark.

There are legal ex-situ breeding programs in place already, and legal propagated offspring available in the US.

I would like to see more land preserved for this species and alot of others.. But there is such a demand that they will eventually become extint in the wild.
