That's a really gorgeous color of red with nice fat petals.
Judging by the photo, I'd call that a Chinese red. I have
two besseae Peach Cobbler x Colossal Peach that look
exactly like this one with the same full shape. I wonder
if they're related?????
 
Great saturation.
Tom, what do you look for in parentage specifically regarding saturation of color?

All of our breeding clones came from the late Dr. Clements. None had clonal names, just numbers. A few were marked "Peru" after the number and they tended to have a rounder flower form and were more saturated red in color than the others. We chose our breeding stock from the ones marked "Peru". Our 'Fox Valley' FCC/AOS , 'Fox Valley Flame' AM/AOS and 'Fox Fire' AM/AOS clones are all from his "Peru" group of plants. John M's Phrag. besseae 'Carlisle' clone also appears to be more red than most.
 
So you did not pick the parentage per se, more trusted his eye and established genetics?
