Unfortunately, the damages are huge. Pisco a city with a population of over 130,000 has almost 80% of its houses down in the ground. We are talking of nearly 17000 houses that not longer existing.
Most of the Peruvian members on this forum, I believe live in Lima. There is no much problem there other than damaging some old houses in the historic downtown area.
For some of us that live in the US, there is not much we can do other than help with donations. If anyone is interested in doing that, please do so going to www.redcross.org or to http://www.sucede.org/peru.html where you can contribute with some money. Hopefully, Peru will pay back the orchid enthusiasts in the world with some new to-be-discovered orchids in the future
Thanks Heather for bringing this to our forum's attention. And thanks everyone that have my people in your thoughts and prayers.
