How do you distinguish this from barbigerum var aureum?

Paphiopedilum vejvarutianum is characterized by a heavily spotted bract. This vejvarutianum is not a full albino, so the spotting in the bract makes it distinguishable from barbigerum aureum. Also, I believe the plant came from a regular vejvarutianum.

Pretty. I didn't know album was not only in the flower.

There's album, and then there's album. A true albino has no red/brown pigment anywhere in the plant. It can't produce it. But a taxonomist could apply forma album to just about anything and as long as the flower was mostly without red/brown pigment the name would probably stick.

A lovely albescent form (albescens if a taxonomist was applying the term formally) like this is much more complex genetically, controlling pigment distribution rather than presence/absence. It opens up the possibility for crosses showing a full range of pigment intensity.

Very nice. It would be interesting to see if seedlings from a selfing are uniform or show a range of coloration.
