I must be honest an say that the purpuratum you're showing us here is not very pretty

True and very different from all the dark ones too, I wonder whether there is an alba gene hidden somewhere in this particular clone.

I think I prefer my typical dark colour form. But as you say, at least its blooming...mine has gone over a year without and no signs anytime soon.

I wish I could grow this species period ... mine grows so slowly it's actually getting smaller ...

Wish someone would make a hybrid between a dark one of these and a dark form of tonsum ... might get something easier to grow ?

So I gather from Todd & you that this species is hard to grow & flower?

I think it's pretty cool too. I especially like the petals as they approach the sepals.........very cool.
