It is a cross between Paphiopedilum Matcheck x Paphiopedilum Carl Keyes and made by Gallup & Stribling International in 1978 with unfortunately no offspring and no award.

There had to be offspring, or they would not have spent the money to register the cross. This was the type of cross G & S was making to produce complex Paphs for the cut flower market. Paph Matchek particularly the clone 'Mars' has a nice tall flower stem good for cut flowers. Matchek's form was a bit open by 1978 standards, so the fact that they used it says they were going for the cut flower trade. Most of the clones of Carl Keyes were pretty good reds of the Winston Churchill type, not solid reds, but red zones on the petals and such. So none got awarded - often the fate of cut flower production plants is that even the best of the bunch never get shown at a judging.
