Hmm. I thought alba was a recessive trait such that crossing two alba would only yield alba?

Not necessarily. Sometimes it happens and other times, like this, it doesn’t. It’s all to do with the genes responsible for the album character. They need to be identical for albums to appear. Several different genes can cause the album character. If the albums are caused by different genes then this happens.
