The black swallowtail butterflies are actually females of the familiar eastern tiger swallowtail (typical yellow & black). The females can be either black or yellow. The males are always yellow. The yellow females have large amounts of blue in the wings, the males have very little blue.
 
I think your little moss is in fact the lycopod species known as northern bog club moss, Lycopodiella inundata.

club moss! thank you. I don't remember all of the names of the other things we check out on our trips; they aren't orchids, after all ;)
