Could be; you probably knew him better than I. But the story about finding a quiet place to smoke came from a conversation I had with Jack himself. Maybe he was using it to illustrate his point that micranthum required high air movement to thrive and was talking about another in his party. I'll look back through some my old OD's because I think he may have made that observation there as well.

Are there any texts out there either or you would suggest for those of us just getting into breeding on the home/hobbyist level?
 
I do have the second edition and it's my Paph.
bible and I refer to it quite a lot. It's been an
enormous help as a relative newbie to slipper
orchids and well worth the price.

Will the 2nd edition be discounted any further then the current $40?

I have seen the Kew book at the library here in Seattle, and Hicks book looked a bit more advanced. Thank you for the suggestions!
