Hi All,
Each year, we try to release a new slipper orchid hybrid around the time of the Chicagoland Orchidfest. Here are the requirements:
1) Must represent a new direction in slipper orchid hybridizing.
2) Must grow like a weed.
3) Flower has to last at least six weeks on the plant.
4) Must be priced (slightly) below $ 20 for a NBS/BS plant.
This year, our special release is Paph. (tonsum x Magic Wand) @ $ 19.95/ea. (See photo of the first coloratum seedling to bloom)
This is the first hybrid we know of that has ever been made with Paph. Magic Wand - a "flame" type vinicolor Maudiae hybrid of (Red Glory x Magic Flame) that was made with the original Paph. callosum var JAC in it's background. Paph. tonsum needs no introduction, as that's where the flower gets it's longevity and interesting black petal warts. Seedlings have both dark and light leaf bases, and while the photo is of a coloratum type, the vinis promise to be stunning. Please PM me if you'd like one reserved for pickup at the Festival. We won't be listing them on the website until after the Festival.
Thanks!
