First flowering seedling. This cross can throw out a lot of average clones so I'm rapt how this one has turned out. It is basically just a gigantic haynaldianum with stripes. I also wasn't expecting such a tall spike. It won everything at our orchid societies monthly meeting last week.

Paph Houghtoniae (rothschildianum x haynaldianum)

I have always wanted a good clone of this cross and you got one of them David. The first time I saw this cross it was magnificent plant displayed at a monthly judging session. They pass it over for some minor fault. The old man presenting the plant was outraged and I don't think he ever return to judging with a plant again. I wasn't happy about the turn events myself. I think it was politically motivated the passing of his plant.

Yes, it does happen and it is sad to see.

I am hopeful this clone may be awardable in the future. I think it compares favourably with some recent AM awarded clones. It has nice shape and colour and the size isn't bad. The judges were pretty impressed at our orchid meeting. I just have to add some more flowers first. That first link had 6 on a spike.

I agree David the first and yours, its hard to tell apart. It also should of been a higher award as well, given 6 flowers.

Maybe because only 4 flowers were open when it was judged. I'm amazed this hybrid could produce 6 flowers. Haynaldianum doesn't tend to have a high flower count itself - 3 to 4 generally. So that is some clone that first one.
