What is this?

Can anyone tell me what the circled plant is?

It is in a container I planted with North Cascades wildflowers, but I don't remember what this plant is or where it might have come from.

Although I have not seen them mottled like that personally, it looks a lot like a mayapple.

On another site, I found a mention that certain mayapples can be mottled early in the year.

I have mayapples in my yard and I really love look they bring to the garden.

I'd say Mayapple as well. We've got a lot at the garden though again, I haven't seen a mottled one like that! Neato!

The plant is definitely a Podophyllum. Podophyllum peltatum (Mayapple) is native to eastern North America, as far west as Nebraska, and there are several other species in Asia. If it was growing in the Cascades it either was introduced in that area or you found an apparently unknown population, possibly a new species.
