Phrag. Fritz Schomburg (besseae 'OZ Selected' x kovachii 'Full Moon’)

Picked up from The Orchid Inn, a year ago in January 2023. I’m not super excited about the jagged edges on the bottom of the petals.. I moved my last Fritz on because I couldn’t get away from that. It’s also not the biggest. But I do like the darker color, happy in some ways to get away from the pink. I’m into darker shades these days, maybe it’s the years of growing kovachii hybrids.

It has a few more buds emerging, I think I'll see how they bloom out and give it another cycle. What do you think? I’ve seen some excellent Fritz’s out there. Maybe I’ll hang on until I procure another lotto ticket.

I grow moss balls sometimes with orchids. Net pot and grodan.. the moss just grows.

Probably the same cross. I took about 12. They weren't growing very well when I got them and they are still recovering. Might have one in spike but it hasn't been the best year of phrag growing for me. Took me until mid summer to figure out my chemistry was all wrong.

Pete, just remember that rainmix is incredibly hygroscopic. Don’t store it anywhere that is humid.

Oh, good to know. Thanks for the info. Where do you store a fertilizer to keep moisture out, will the fridge work?

Good idea. I’ve not tried the fridge. Mine sits in its original tub and plastic bag in a dry cupboard indoors.

You can also put silica get packets in with the fert. in the container!

Green barn orchid supply in Florida has the 1 gallon net pots.

Rainmix is a copy of MSU, and both can induce very weird things in orchids, chlorosis, etc....
