Monkey Business

Woke up to something banging around on the roof. I was surprised to find a monkey up there! He started coming towards me quickly, so I didn't hang around!

When I visited Japan, I saw some warning signs against monkeys. Did not get to see any.
Are they common in your area?

The neighbor's dog is annoying enough. Monkeys are a complete non-starter lol.

Locally I've never seen one before in person, and I spend a lot of time in wild areas (that's over 20 years). I have heard reports of them though, including ones in the neighborhood. They must be very secretive in these parts. By contrast, while up in Shiga Prefecture I saw whole troops working the tree-lined margins of superhighways! Every place is different I guess. If you've ever seen one up close you'll know why to give them room. They are large bodied, and therefore very strong, and have large canine and incisor teeth. They could mess you up if they had a mind.
