I had three days off and didnt want to be around the strom of the century hitting the west coast so I drove down the Death Valley. Was hoping to have clear skies for astrophotography but El Nino is walloping everyone

Cool pictures, last I was through there was 20 years ago and there was a ghost town there empty buildings & houses, did you see that?

Did not. Is that Scotty's castle? DV has changed a lot since I was last there in 2002. Lot more infrastructure
 
Great photos! Beautiful place! I've been there once. It was during October in the late 80s ('88? '89?), and it was incredibly warm.

By the way, I would love to visit Death Valley now. Maybe someday.

Yeah, E. gigantea is found over much of the desert/semi-desert regions of the SW, but always next to permanent streams. On a similar vein, and perhaps even more counterintuitive for a desert environment, two subspecies of pupfish (Cyprinodon salinus) live within the boundaries of Death Valley.
