Flowered beautifully by DaveB, my mendelii is showing flaring on some flowers. This is surprising as it was not expected.

Because the flares were not that particularly strong on some flowers as well as missing in some other flowers, I put a question mark on it after name. Consistency is needed to earn that label. Let’s see what happens next year.

It has 11 flowers and 2 buds on 4 inflorescences with configuration of 4/2/4/3. The NS 12-13 cm (flowers cupped forward as its natural position).

Do environmental conditions impact the flares or strictly genetics?
The genetics sets the flare potential while the environment allows the expression. Usually.

Sometimes, a growth hormone additive can enhance or trigger the flares. If that occurs, usually all flowers show same pattern. However in this case, it was random flarings.

That is why I find it odd.
