Brachy Paphs 2024

Life has kept my participation in the forum low for several weeks. Thankfully my orchids have persisted and produced all the same. Here is a group picture of my brachy collective in early April.

Paphiopedilum godefroyae from Orchid Inn breeding.


Paphiopedilum leucochilum... there is a third bud hiding under these two flower. Plus there is another bud coming on another growth. This one is quite happy with me.

Darlene, are your brachy’s in a different mix or watered differently than your other paphs?

I use a mix of bark, perlite, charcoal (when available), and oyster shells for my brachys. I use the same mix with the addition of a small amount of German peatmoss for my other paphs.

I up the ratio of medium to small bark in my brachys, so their mix is a touch more coarse even in smaller pots.

Paphiopedilum godefroyae album blooming for the first time.

Paphiopedilum S. Gratrix (bellatulum x godefroyae) should open a bit more in future blooming. Time will tell.
