First bloom seedling of Paphiopedilum sanderianum, a species from Borneo. This one seems a little precocious, blooming on a growth with a 16 inch leafspan just as the second growth is being produced. Petal length is only about 28 cm.

congrats. this species certainly takes special attention and patience. flower quantity and quality should improve a bit on future bloomings as the plant gets up to a good size

Congrats on the blooming!! So cool that it bloomed with a 16"LS!! Great growing!

Thanks all. This is my first blooming of a sanderianum and I'm looking forward to this one improving.

Exciting, Ed! Just the name sanderianum on the topic list draws us all like a magnet! Very good! Encouraging for me, at least. I still haven't bought a sandie because I don't want to spend that much or wait that long.
