I had despaired photographing any ghost orchid flowers this year, having schedule difficulties preventing me from making the swamps during peak season. An unfortunate and yet fortunate car breakdown coming back from the COS symposium made it where we had to return to the Naples area yesterday. My second oldest son and myself explored the swamps, finding only bloomless ghost orchid plants, until the late afternoon where a final check yielded a single plant with a single flower. I bring to you now one of the last ghost orchid flowers of the season.

Very beautiful!! The plant is camouflaging it self on the tree trunk and the flower looks like standing in the air from nowhere...!! CooL!!
 
Nice photo. I'm always intrigued by ghost orchids and how the do not have any leaves. Seeing them in-situ is always a pleasure.
