My Encyclias grow better slightly raised over the potting material

My experience with Encyclias is that they grow better is potted so that the base of the oldest pseudobulb, the one that will produce the new growth is slightly higher than the level of the potting material. I have used bark, stones, and empty terracota pots, all seem to work as long as the media...

I often see orchids massively overpotted, some thrive in much smaller pots and baskets

I often see orchids planted in massively large pots, way bigger than what is recommendable for orchids. If you carefully supply the water and fertilizer needs of an orchid, some can be grown in surprisingly small pots in relation to the size of the plant. This adult plant of Dendrobium...

How would you rate this Paph. rothschildianum?

I brought this plant last year in perfect state. As soon as it got into my garden the leaves started to rot. Most of the leaves died, only stubs remained. But the roots were in perfect condition and it has produced a new growth that is healthy but smaller than the previous fan of leaves. I...

    Guarianthe skinneri forma oculata

This is a plant that was imported, bare root, from Costa Rica, two years ago. When newly purchased it had little by the way of roots. It has been producing roots slowly and steady and finally bloomed. I expect that in the future it will produce larger inflorescences.

Probably a hybrid between Dendrobium aphyllum and Dendrobium polyanthum

I brought this as Dendrobium aphyllum. It is certainly not that species. The very round, flat, white lip and pink petal and sepal color makes me think it is a hybrid with Dendrobium polyanthum.

    Paphiopedilum Transvaal

My plant produced a second inflorescence from a bigger fan of leaves. The flower has a more erect dorsal than on the previous blooming.

    Dendrobium primulinum var. Laos

I have two different clones of Dendrobium primulinum var. Laos. This is the first bloom of this plant at sea level. It used to be in a garden in Puerto Rico mountains. In this blooming the flower opened pink with faint green stripping on the yellow part of the lip.
