    Paphiopedilum armeniacum has finally bloomed!

Hi Corrado, it came from a UK nursery called Spicesotics. It’s grown in Orchiata back, 9-12mm at about 75mm thick over polystyrene peanuts (normally used for protecting parcels!).

    Paphiopedilum armeniacum has finally bloomed!

Back from a fantastic few days at the European Orchid Conference in Dresden, Germany, to discover my Paph armeniacum bloom has finally fully opened. I first noticed the bud developing back in November 23, so it's been quite a wait for this moment! Worth it though, I'm really pleased with it.

From speaking to several experienced growers in the UK (thanks Mariano Medda at the the Eric Young Orchid Foundation), Europe (the Michael Tibbs) and the US (thank you Jerry Fischer), the winner is.... Paph Insigne x helenae! I'll let you know how...

Is this Paphiopedilum helenae x spicerianum (P. Hengduan Sweetheart)?

Nobody has suggested an alternative. I spoke with Mariano at the Eric Young Foundation, and he says to trust the nursery. He thinks there's every chance it could be what they sold it as.

A really useful assessment.... although not entirely what I was hoping for! Thank you.

Is this Paphiopedilum helenae x spicerianum (P. Hengduan Sweetheart)?

I’m hoping you might be able to help me out. I bought a plant 3 or 4 years back from a nursery call Orchidejos in Lithuania. It was sold to me as P. helenae x spicerianum. A couple of fellow growers questioned this after seeing the flowers, but I didn’t really think any more about it. I really...

I light the orchids with two large soft boxes. I have two elinchrom lights, sent to equal power to give even light across the flowers
