    Average fc for phrags?

With your 2500 FC on for 14 hours the DLI calculates to 25.0. five times more than the plants are going to use. Here is a phrag seedling deflasked 6 weeks ago grown at DLI 1.6 for 5 weeks and increased to DLI 5.0 for the last week. Too much light I think.

    Average fc for phrags?

At 14" from the lights it measures 860 FC. The DLI is 6.90 with 12 hour lighting. I think phrags need less than a DLI OF 5.0. that would mean tje lights can be raised to probably 24" or higher.

    Average fc for phrags?

How wide is your grow area? I'm using 3 tubes covering 30" width. Also in my opinion 12 hours of light is correct for phrags. The native habit stays around 12 day and 12 night. Some plant metabolism functions occur in darkness so staying with the times in nature seems wise to me. The reason to...

    Average fc for phrags?

What was the distance from the light to the light meter and how many light tubes are above the meter? My Barrina tubes don't emitte 2500 FC until the meter is at a distance of 3".

With LEDs as your only light source download the phone app called Photone to measure the light hitting the foliage. Measure the DLI (Daily Light Integral).

    Average fc for phrags?

How are you measuring 2500 FC from Barrína leds? And of that is your light intensity for 14 hours you are probably wasting a lot of electricity by providing more light than the plants need in a day.

Round fungus spots attacking my Paphs. If some of you have insights on a durable solution.

The pathogen in your photos is a common infection on wild orchids, at least in the Peruvian Amazon. And like in your observation it can be one plant and not on others next to it. I saw the same problem on a group of paths I had growing in the garden under trees receiving full rain. Never any...

    Charcoal

Horticultural charcoal is different from activated charcoal. So I searched for "forest fire charcoal runoff water contamination". Science minded readers might want to read a sample link...

    Charcoal

Just to be clear I'm not suggesting using charcoal is bad. I've always loved med to add it to organic mixes. I've never given any thought to the concept of "sweetening" the mix, whatever that means. Actually I've considered it a positive carbon source for the roots to pickup. Knowing that...

    Charcoal

After soaking rinsed charcoal for 24 hours in distilled water the salts rose to 520 ppm. That's a gain of 516ppm above the 4 ppm water. The pH of soak water measures 9.0.

    Charcoal

That's what I always assumed. I have used it I mixed for ever. Never seen a problem with it. Now I tested it separately along with other elements I'm making mix with to see how each might effect the result. The high EC of the charcoal is a big surprise. It may be irrelevant since the mix in pot...
