I've bought this plant from Ecuador, labelled as Ctsm. napoense.

I can only find one photo of this species (in the book The World of Catasetum by Holst), and even though the flowers shows some differences, Holst indicates in the text that apparently there is some variability on this species (Note: variability in colors and to some extent in flower shape is a very common thread in Catasetum!). Therefore, I do not much material to compare... on the other hand, there is a photo of Ctsm. schweinfurthii (at least I can find only one photo!), which is a rare peruvian species, and seems to be VERY similar (for not saying identical) to napoense... I cannotfind any reference whether these two species are synonym... Also, cannot be 100% sure my plant is one or the other... for now, I keep the label "napoense" :)

Enjoy!

Very lovely species, whatever it is. I'm suprised it's not more common.

very nice! I'd self it; i'm sure you would have lots of takers for the flasks

Selfing Catasetum is not very easy, as they normally don't produce male and female flowers atthe same time (female flowers are actually not very often produced)... But of course I would do it, if I could in this case... :)

Thanks for the comments!

IDK, but it is nice. Good luck w/ the ID.
Flowers are already at the specialist... ;) who has already confirmed he will have a look at it (he liked the plant a lot too!)... let's see what comes out of this :) It's really a fantastic plant, and I would be very happy if I could the ID confirmed...

ahhh... :( I probably knew that at one time, but memory seems to serve itself whenever it chooses (and not, other times :) )
