The same plant as in the thread 'second one', now with both flowers open. I gave it the clonal name 'Choy Pau' which means vegetable dumpling

Nope. Wild leuco can be found in Thailand, not Malaysia..

A mix of limestone, charcoal, leca, volcanic rock and a bit of soil, which has washed out by now.

Haha.. I hope so too..
I chose the name 'Choy Pau' because of the green staminodes. Over here, dumplings are marked according to the different fillings by a small coloured dot on top of the dumpling. For vegetable dumplings, they have green dots on top.NYEric

In my opinion, the white/cream coloured pouch trait in leucochilum is variable with various degrees of spotting and this becomes especially obvious when the breeders select for improved colour in the petals. I presume the genes for pouch colour and petal colour may not be that independent of one another. We all know that line-breeding for other colour traits will produce characteristics not found in wild plants (say phalaenopsis bellina 'blue'), but that does not mean it is not the same species.
