It’s tenebrosa season and a few are in bloom or coming.

First one is ‘Rainforest’ FCC/AOS with huge 20 cm flowers and second is a vinicolor (darker) form that belongs to a fellow judge (David B.) from SVO (about 19 cm). Another one ‘Michael’ HCC/AOS is in bud (will post when open).

Last pic is comparison. You can see the vinicolor more dark grape (vs dark copper).

As usual Leslie, these are stunning and top of the tree. The first one seems to have quite tall and narrow pseudo bulbs. Is this the case? Mine has similar growths and I was wondering whether they would eventually fatten up in time,

Thanks David.

The Rainforest cultivar is always tall and thin, since I got it 10 years ago. The newer breeding lines may have slightly shorter and fatter bulbs. The tallness is usually the standard to which it will rule out a possible hybrid. This applies to tipo forms.

The alba forms are usually shorter and lighter green (vegetatively) in color.

Cattleya (Laelia) tenebrosa is an extremly pretty species and if they wouldn't grow such tall.....I would have grown one on my window sill for a long time. But I don't.......and therefore I enjoy these flowers with much pleasure. These are lovely ones, Leslie. 👌

Both are stunning, I agree that the difference in growth pattern is interesting. Do you think ploidy is at play at all?
