Some of us Flickr users were wondering about the direction of Smugmug, who purchased Flickr from Verizon. Here is an interview, and it sounds ok for now.

They recognize the value of photographer community in Flickr, and they will stay as is. They consider that Smugmug and Flickr have different usages. They can also be differentiated from other photo sharing sites which are serving more for disposable culture than serious photographers. Smugmug is a paid service, but free-version of Flickr will stay free.
Since the parent company understand the photographers better, I hope that they will keep innovating (unlike the previous owner like Yahoo).
