That happened at Newark airport a few years ago coming back from New Mexico. The pilot timed it perfectly and the wheels hit the runway at exactly the right moment with everything pointed straight down the runway. I had never felt such surprise and admiration as I did that day for the pilot of that flight
If you ever land in Narita Airport (Tokyo), you'll often go through this experience. In fact this kind of landing is quite common around the world. At Narita if things get too hairy, the planes are sent to Hanada Airport, down by the harbor, about an hour bus drive away. A real bummer if you are trying to get a connecting flight. I've had a couple white knuckle landings at Narita like these, and a couple were quite memorable!
