This is probably the most common Platanthera, but I hadn't ever seen it before this summer. Sorry about the horribly over exposed photograph... I can't control any settings.

This orchid prefers very damp soil along forest marsh areas and other low and wet woodland areas.

In situations like this, I place an 18% gray card behind the flower to get a correct exposure reading -- by depressing the shutter button down slightly, and then take the card away before pushing all the way down to make the exposure. Most automatic cameras have this feature, but not all.
