A big shout out to Frank Cervera and his 2020 Orchid Digest articles on Phragmipedium culture and habitat. After a sulking Phrag. warscewiczianum failed to bloom when it should have, I hewed closely to his culture recommendations and habitat notes.

The plant was transferred in June of last year to a clay pot, filled with a mixture of Precision Orchiata and small perlite, with a dose of pool filter sand added in. In the bottom of the pot, I added Hydroton for good measure.

Yesterday, I unpotted the plant to have a look at its roots and media condition. I’ve never had Phrag roots look this good:

Photos of the whole plant as its petals were elongating, and flower closeup:

Good culture measures! One of my favorite Phrag. species...love it but it is easy to bacteria rot if the culture is not right.

second that for sure... any ideas what the triggers might be? like factually?
