A faithful bloomer. But, this year it's doing something new: in the first pic, if you look at the bract right below the one with the bloom, you can see that the spike is branching!

Also, I am now prepared to report that rubber mulch (made from recycled tires) does work well as a S/H medium. I repotted it into this maybe three months ago.

 
Very nice bloom :) I've seen large clumps of these growing near a creek in the Denver Botanic Gardens (I have the same problem with them not growing species) and they are always pretty, but I've never seen them branch... so you must be doing something right :)
